Applied Shiatsu Techniques
Yossi Steinberg first became interested in McTimoney Chiropractic after
damaging his own back in an accident. He suffered with a continuously
stiff and painful neck and back for seven years before attending a McTimoney
Chiropractor for treatment.
“Like many people I had learned to live
with my bad back. It was only after visiting a McTimoney Chiropractor
that I realised just how restricted movement had become. Following the
treatment I could turn my head without having to rotate my whole upper
body.”
This made such a positive impact on Yossi’s life
that he chose to study complementary medicine. Already working as an
emergency service medic, he started training as a Shiatsu therapist,
which he has practised since 1995. In January 2004 Yossi completed four
years Chiropractic training and qualified as a McTimoney Chiropractor.
In 2009 he completed the Chiropractic Diversified Technique course held
at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic. He practises in Gloucestershire
in Stroud,
Cirencester and Nailsworth.
McTimoney
Chiropractic –
a safe gentle whole-body treatment
McTimoney Chiropractic is a straightforward method of adjusting
the bones of your body to maintain the correct alignment of the spine
and to ensure that your body’s nerve supply works efficiently. It
seeks to eliminate the cause, not just treat the symptoms, and through
subtle adjustments, chiropractic care can relieve pain and discomfort,
increase mobility and provide a route to better health.
How does it work?
Trained as a McTimoney Chiropractor, Yossi uses only his
hands to make adjustments to the bones of your body. The key to the success
of the adjustments is in the speed, dexterity and accuracy with which
they are performed.
The gentle nature of the McTimoney Chiropractic technique
makes it suitable for people of all ages. Misalignments can occur for
many reasons, such as incorrect lifting, car or sporting accidents, childbirth,
falls, stress and poor posture, and could result in symptoms and conditions
that might worsen over time if not corrected.
Treatment can frequently help with the following conditions:
- Back, neck and shoulder pain
- Pain, discomfort and stiffness in joints and bones
- Migraine headaches
- Muscular aches and pains
- Sports and other injuries.
What to expect in your first visit
The first treatment consists of three parts:
- Taking your medical history, including lifestyle and habits.
- Physical examination, including neurological and orthopaedic testing
to form a working diagnosis and treatment plan, to be fully discussed
before any treatment.
- McTimoney Chiropractic treatment or referral, depending on your needs.
Treatment is carried out fully clothed so it is advisable to wear comfortable
clothing.
Please allow one hour for the first visit.
How many sessions are needed?
The number of sessions needed varies depending on:
- Your age and general state of health
- The nature of the problem
- How long you have had the problem: generally, a recent injury will
resolve faster than one of 20 years’ standing.
The initial stage of the treatment usually consists of
three to five treatments at weekly intervals, by which time a noticeable
change should have occurred. After the initial stage, treatments gradually
become more widely spaced out depending on the patient’s needs.
Once the problem has been resolved, regular check-ups are recommended
to keep the patient’s spine and other joints functioning well. Follow
up treatments take 30 minutes.

Responses and reactions to treatments
During a course of treatment most patients feel physical
changes as the body re-aligns. These may include a brief period of stiffness
or tiredness, but more often a feeling of well-being and relief from stress.
Treatment for the elderly
Many older people find that McTimoney Chiropractic treatment
helps them maintain their mobility as well as retain their health and
wellbeing. The gentle nature of McTimoney Chiropractic makes it particularly
suitable for this time of life.
